Course Description-Essential Qualities of the New Landscape of Work

Designers can look at space through a variety of lenses. This course gives an overview of two of those lenses, urban planning and phylogenetics, and introduces a third lens—the qualities that are essential to a naturally human work environment. Participants will learn how urban planning concepts, phylogenetic design principles, and essential qualities combine to create a new landscape of work that supports the way we work today.

Learning Objectives

· Understand how urban planning concepts may be applied to workplace design.

· Know how to apply phylogenetic design principles to enhance physical and psychological comfort in the workplace.

· Know the essential qualities of an office landscape that contribute to a naturally human work environment.

· Understand how urban planning, phylogenetic principles, and essential qualities combine to create a new landscape of work appropriate to the way we work today.
